When I started my entrepreneurial career 20 years ago everybody thought I was nuts, I can still remember many of the negative comments that are still imbeded in my brain today, comments like.
>Why don’t you go out and get a job, this business stuff isn’t for you.
>You’re a sharp guy, why don’t apply for a government position you’d be a GS-13 in no time.Come on you live right here Washington DC.
>You’re wasting your time and money, get a life.
>Are you sure you have what it takes to do this.(This one really got to me)
These negative comments went on for years, from family members and close friends the very people who I thought had my back had become the barriers of envy, jealousy and disappointment.The crabs in a barrel theory was definitely at work.But I wasn’t going to let them pull me down I was determined to succeed no matter want it took, there were many times I thought I was from a different planet, but quitting never crossed my mind.
It got so bad that I began to disassociate myself from anybody who didn’t share my vision.And I made up my mind that either I would continue to scratch around in the dirt with the chickens, or I would rise up out of all the negativity and sore with the eagles.Its amazing how the mind works and I’m so glad I discovered this early on in my entrepreneurial career.
